Magaret T Ikongo

Magaret T Ikongo is a Non-Executive Director of Continental Reinsurance Limited. She is a seasoned insurance and risk management professional with over 40 years of experience in Tanzania and across Africa. She began her career at the National Insurance Corporation (T) Ltd in 1978, rising to become Managing Director in 1999. She later served at the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) as Special Advisor and Acting Director before co-founding Actuarial and Risk Consulting (T) Ltd in 2017, where she is an Executive Chairperson.

She currently serves as an Independent Director on the Boards of Vodacom (T) PLC, First Housing Finance (T) Ltd, Metro Life, and Meticulous General Insurance. She previously served as the Board chairperson of Africa Re and Zep Re. She was also the first Tanzanian woman to qualify as an ACII (UK) and the first female President of the Insurance Institute of Tanzania. Her contributions have earned her multiple regional and international awards, including the OESAI Honorary Award for outstanding contribution to the insurance industry in Africa(2023) and the Top 50 Women in Insurance in Africa Award (2022), Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Women in Insurance and Banking Forum and the Excellence Award for distinguished Service by the Insurance Institute of Tanzania.
