Alex St James

Alex St James is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Continental Reinsurance Limited. Alex St James is an experienced risk and reinsurance professional with more than two decades of leadership across global insurance and reinsurance markets. He has held senior executive roles driving growth, governance, and operational resilience in Africa, the Middle East, India, and the UK, with a strong track record in building client relationships, delivering technical accuracy, and leading cross-border teams.

Alongside his financial services career, Alex holds a Master’s degree in Naval Architecture and continues post-graduate research within the Doctoral College of the University of Portsmouth. His technical background in marine engineering and ship design provides a unique perspective on complex risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and the challenges of sustainability in global markets.

He is an Associate Member of both the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and brings to the Board a rare blend of strategic, technical, and governance expertise to support Continental Re’s long-term objectives.
